Global Center for Success partnering with Participatory Budgeting and Community Financial Educators to provide Financial Literacy to the Vallejo area.
Financial Literacy Training for Youth and Families Project
The mission of the Global Center for Success is to develop and teach life skills for success focusing on personal growth, health and
wellness and employment for a global community. We strongly believe Financial Literacy is an essential skill for any youth and
family to build a more secure future. It is also important to repeat the learning process to reinforce and update these concepts until the knowledge becomes a regular practice.
We have come to partner with the City of Vallejo, with the help of Community Financial Educators, through the Participatory
Budgeting (PB) process to work on the Financial Literacy Training for Youth and Families Project.
In 2019, this project taught Vallejo, Jesse Bethel, John Finney High Schools Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. They also served Parents
and Community Participants with PB funds. They have reached 2,322 students and 1,230 community participants.
This year’s project will be focusing on MIT Seniors and Parents and John Finney High School Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Students
and Parents. They will teach 6 Financial Classes and 2 Career Skill Classes for the Students and 12 Financial Classes for the Parents.
They will also have a Career Fair with Internship Possibilities for the Seniors. They will extend Financial Classes for Internship
Partners.
The financial workshop area of focus for the students will be on Budgeting, Debt Management, Saving Concept, Basic Financial
Planning Model, Basic Financial Concepts, and College Gameplan. The career workshop will cover Resume Writing, Interview
Etiquette. The financial workshop for the parents or community participants will also include Investment Risk Management, Life
Risk Planning, Retirement Planning, Medicare, Long Term Care, and Wealth Preservation Basics.
If resources and time permit, the project can also extend to other high schools in Vallejo.
As a result of COVID-19, many families have major financial and career impacts. The goal of this project is to develop important life
skills for the students to prepare them for stronger careers and financial futures. If you know any organization that would like to
provide internship opportunities for the Vallejo students please reach out to their Project Coordinator, Nancy at 510-812-4800 or
